Games and sports play an important part in the education of a man. There is an old saying: “A healthy mind is in a healthy body.” Games and sports create a spirit of education and a sense of discipline. So in every college proper attention is given to games. Annual sports are held everywhere. In every college, sports and games are held everywhere with great pomp and show. The annual sports of our college took place on the 29th December. The students and the staff hurried to the track at the appointed hour. The students stood in the ground and the staff managed the conduct of games. Then there was a march past of the players. The Best Athletes of the last year took an oath and declared that they would observe the rules and regulations of the sports. After this the sports started. There were several kinds of races—hundred meters, half kilo-meter, one kilo meter and hurdles. The interesting races were the potato race, spoon race, sack race, three legged race. These races provided fun and amusement. Some could not run; some fell on the track; some were out of breath. There was a keen competition among the athletes. The spectators were full of excitement. After the races came the long jump, pole jump and high jump. It was a great fun to see the player rise up and then fall on the ground. Alva Edison of Fourth Year topped the list in all the three jumps. With the final round of the race, the events of the first day came to an end. The next day, the sports were started with throws: discuss throw, javelin throw and shot put. The spectators enjoyed these events also. They appreciated the styles and skills of the players. Pillow fighting and musical chairs race were the most interesting items. In the Musical Chair items, the gentry of the town and the members of the staff also took part. Their running around the chairs and then quick sitting on them caused laughter in the spectators. Throughout the day, there was a holiday spirit, fun and mischief among the students. At seven p. m. prizes were given to the athletes. Alva Edison was again declared the best all-round athlete of the college. In the end, the chief guest made a very good speech. He praised the players for their better performance.
