Demonstration of computer component
(RAM, ROM, microprocessor, port, expansion slot and power supply attached to
the computer system).
Every computer system contains
different brands and models of components, but whether desktop or laptop, most computer
share the same basic types of parts. The system unit is the heart of the
computer system. The system unit contains some of the following:
Ø Mother board and cards
Ø Connecters
Ø Ports
Ø Expansion slot
Ø Microprocessor
Ø ROM( read only memory)
Ø RAM( random access memory)
Ø Power supply
MOTHER
BOARD:
If we look inside the system unit, we
will see the huge circuit board that fills one side of the system unit. This is
the main circuit board inside the system unit. It is known as mother board. It
is very necessary for the computer system unit. It provides electrical
connections and communications path ways to the various parts of the computer.
The mother board is the core component of the computer. It is called the mother
board because all our computer components of the computer like card, processor,
memory, ports, and connectors are connected and controlled by it. They all need
to connect to the mother board to work together. The mother board is the core

EXPANSION
SLOT:
Most computers have expansion slots
on the mother board that allows us to do various types of expansion cards.
These are some time called PCI (peripheral component inter connect) cards. We
may never have to add any PCI cards because most mother boards have built in
video, sound, network, and other capabilities. However if we want to boost the
performance of our computer or update the capabilities of an older computer, we
can say always add one or more cards. Below are some of the common types of
expansion cards.
SOUND
CARD:The sound card are also called an
audio card, is reasonable for what we hear in the speakers or head phones. Most
mother boards have integrated sound, but we can upgrade to a dedicated sound
card for higher quality sound.
GRAPHIC
CARD:The graphic card also called the
video card is responsible for what we see on the monitor. Most computers have a
GPU (graphics processing unit) built into the mother board instead of having a separate
video card or graphic card. If we like playing graphicsintensive games, we can
add a faster video card to one of the expansion slots to get better
performance.
NETWORK
INTERFACE CARD:The network interface card allows our
computer to communicate over a network and access the internet. It can either
connect with an Ethernet cable or through wireless connection often called
Wi-Fi. Many motherboards have built in network connections and a network card
can also be added to an expansion slot.
