Kashmir A Paradise on Earth
Azad Jammu and Kashmir is a
self-governing state under the federation of Pakistan. The territory lies to
the west of the Indian- held state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was previously a
part of the former princely state of Jammu and Kashmir which ceased to exist as
a result of the first Kashmir fight between India and Pakistan in 1947. The
province of the Punjab lies to the west of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. To the East,
it is separated from Indian- held state of Jammu Kashmir by the line of
control. Muzaffarabad is its capital. The region of Azad Kashmir is mostly
mountainous. There are high and low mountains with dense forests. These forests
are a ‘’ green gold ‘’ for Kashmir because of their peaks are covered with
snow. There are beautiful valleys in the region which attracts tourists. These
valleys are fertile. Wheat, maize, barley, pulses and vegetables are grown in
valleys. Moreover, Kashmir is famous for fruits like apples, pears, grapes,
apricots, walnuts and mulberry. Dry fruits are exported and a lot of foreign
exchange is earned. The valleys are rich in minerals like coil, iron,
limestone, graphite, marble, gypsum, emerald and ruby. One really well-known valley
located in this region is Neelum valleys. Neelum valley is a valley of dazzling
mountains, springs, fountains, waterfalls, towering trees, shrubs and plants.
This valley containing huge deodar, pine and fir trees, strawberry, wild walnut
and other types of wild growth and herbs lies to the north-east of Muzaffarabad.
This 200-km long valley is ripped apart by the indigo Blue Neelum River which runs
swiftly down the hills and merges itself into the river Jhelum at Do mail,
Muzaffarabad. Do mail where two mighty rivers meet, presents extremely
captivating scene showing beautifully the two rivers merge. The valley,
starting from the city Muzaffarabad, lies on both sides of the Neelum River.
The natural beauty of the valley can be judged from its height and the majestic
mountains and thick forests which are found here. Its altitude, that is just 2,000 feet at the start,
slowly increases until it reaches the height of 8,000 feet . Almost all
the dense forests of Azad Jammu and Kashmir found in this valley, while, high
mountains as well as peaks are present on both sides. These hill tops are full
of forests and the fields are lush green with crops. Banjosa Lake, Jan Dali,
and Tatta Pani are beautiful places located in district Poonch, Azad Jammu and
Kashmir. Situated at an altitude of 1981 meters, Banjosa Lake is an attractive
place to be visited. It is approximately 20 km ahead of Rawalakot. An important
aspect of this lake is that it is an artificial lake, created by man.
