controls and dialog boxes
It is the box where you give more
information to process any command when program needs more information before
continuing. Dialog box are also used to display messages or ask for the
confirmation of commands. There are several methods for collecting information
in a dialog box.
Files, folders and drives:

File:
A file is
an item that contains information- for example, text or image or music. When
opened, a file can look very much like a text document or a picture that you
might find on someone desk or in a filing cabinet. On your computer, files are
represented with icons; these make it easy to recognize a type of file by
looking at its icon.
folder:
A folder
is a container you can use to store files in. folders can also store other
folders. A folder within a folder is usually called a sub folder. You can create
any number of sub folders and each can hold any number of files and additional
sub folders.
disk drive;
Drives
are used to store data. Almost all computers come with at least two drives: a
hard drive (which is used to store large volume of data) and a CD drive (which
stores smaller volumes of data that can be easily transported from one computer
to another). The hard drive is typically designated the C:\ drive and the CD
drive is typically designated the D:\ drive. If you have an additional floppy
drive, it is typically designated the A:\ drive. If your hard drive is
partitioned or if you have additional drives, the letters E:\, F:\, G:\ and so
on are assigned.
mouse and its usage:
Mouse is
a pointing device. An arrow appears on the screen which is called pointer. When
the mouse is rolled on the flat surface the pointer also rolls to the same
direction. There are two to three buttons on the mouse to work. Left mouse
button is used to select menu, object and also to run the application program.
Right mouse button is used to display shortcut menus. The following are some
actions that mouse can do:
Point

Point to the object with the tip of the pointer to select
it.

Click
|
Click and release the mouse button to perform the task such
as to select the object, menu etc. Without moving it.

Double click
|
Double
click on the icon of the application program to run it or open any program.

Drag
|
Dragging is used to move the objects from one location to
the other on the screen. Hold the mouse left button while selecting an object
and move to the desired location. Release the button.

The
following icons are usually available on the windows
computer:
A special
icon in which you can view the contents of the computer. It is a file
management window in which you can browse all the drives, disk drives and files
and folders on your computer. It is very useful icon on the computer
desktop.
